It’s kind of addicting. I’ve driven by Ripon Wi and seen the train of planes coming into Oshkosh. I believe this controller is actually 40 miles or so from Oshkosh and he stages the planes.

They keep a mile separation and once they are in line they just fly them into the airport.

The controller is at Fisk, about 12 SW of the field. Out in the open air on a “ tower” made of wood I believe, with binoculars.

And 1 mile spacing is LOL when it gets busy. I know people who were doing S turns at 55kts in order to keep from running over the traffic in front of them.

Well a P51 in trail of a C150 has a bit of trouble with spacing I would think.

In theory, aircraft using the Fisk arrival are supposed to be able to maintain 90 kts. But your point is right, it’s the combination of aircraft that struggle to reach that speed along with the sheer volume that slow it down. Mostly just the volume.

They have other arrival procedures too, a P51 would probably arrive with other Warbirds.
